Elie Aufseesser is a filmmaker and at times film critic based in Lausanne, Switzerland. Both in his personal life and his creative practice he is always in search of motion and contrast. His films are merely opportunities to experience, experiment and work with these elements. However and wherever he can find them, out of luck and attentiveness, he finds joy in juxtaposing people, places, landscapes and faces.
Elie holds an MFA in Directing and Screenwriting from Columbia University and a Bachelor’s degree in Philosophy and Film Theory from Lausanne University. He taught film theory at Columbia University, worked as an associate producer at Opendox Productions and has accompanied a number of projects as producer, up to this day. In 2020 he started working with ToïToï, an initiative dedicated to producing, fostering and promoting films by its members, as well as artists and filmmakers exploring the spaces between video art and cinema, between documentary and fiction.
His first feature, pas de deux, was awarded best first feature (Opera Prima) at the 2022 Solothurn Film Festival. Elie is currently working as a freelance as well as developing fiction, documentary and art video projects.
